    CITI Program Instructions

The Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) course can be accessed by logging into citiprogram.org and affiliating with CUNY.

    • For Return Users: If you are already registered at CITI Program, please use the same username and password to enter the site. Click “login.” (Do not “login through my organization.”)
    • For New Users: If you have not registered with CITI, then you will need to create a username and password to access RCR course and other training courses.
    • If you have taken CITI courses through the CITI public access site or other institutions, then you need to log in under the same username and password you used previously then “affiliate with another institution.”  Look for “The City University of New York” in the list of institutions and select it. There, you will see a list of CUNY courses.
    • If you have created 2 separate usernames and passwords to access the Human Subjects Research (HSR) course and RCR course – your history will not automatically be merged. If you wish to merge it (recommended), you can contact CITI directly and make a request.

Once you have been able to log on to CITI and access your courses, click “Add a course” near the bottom of the page where you will then be provided with several options. Click on the option entitled “Take the Responsible Conduct of Research course.” You will then find the following user groups: CUNY Researchers and CUNY administrators. Click on CUNY Researchers.

Complete the 9 modules with a pass rate of 80% or above. Please note that the CITI RCR training modules do not need to be completed in one sitting. The program will save your work so that you can stop and start as needed.

For more detailed instructions on how to access the RCR training modules, please watch the video tutorial starting at the 1:40 mark. The RCR training certificate expires 4 years after its initial completion. Thereafter, you will need to take the RCR refresher course upon expiration.
